Ottawa's chamber music festival is just around the corner and artistic director Carissa Klopoushak curated a wonderful programming for their 30th anniversary!
On Friday, July 26, the Kalysta Trio—formed by Lara Deutsch (flute), Marina Thibeault(viola), and Emily Belvedere (harp)—will treat your ears to the premiere of their new program dedicated to the late Canadian composer Jocelyn Morlock.
Friday July 26, 2024 | 12PM | Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre
Known for championing works by female and Canadian composers, Kalysta’s program is a tribute to Jocelyn Morlock, whose untimely passing in March 2023 sent shockwaves throughout the Canadian classical music community. Weeks before her passing, Morlock completed a commission for the trio entitled “The uses of solitude” Like much of her music, this piece addresses a deeply personal and emotional topic: the feelings of isolation and loneliness with which many struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic. In spite of this challenging theme, “The Uses of Solitude” culminates in a powerful expression of joy, re-connection, and love. This program explores new and old, joy and grief, and light and dark – with Jocelyn’s memory at the centre of it all.
