On May 28, the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts announced the nominees for the 44th Dora Mavor Moore Awards, which will take place on June 24 in Toronto.
The new opera project Pomegranate presents a ground-breaking lesbian love story, where Suli and Cassia strive to express their love amidst impossible odds. The time-shifting narrative spans from an ancient women’s temple in Pompeii to Toronto's 80's. Battling homophobia and an impossible ultimatum, the couple endeavors to preserve their love. Fragments of memory persist, revealing a transcendent love that endures through the ages.
Pomegranate, Canadian Opera Company and Vancouver Opera, receives 2 nods including Outstanding Performance by an Individual to Teiya Kasahara 笠原貞野 and Outstanding New Musical/New Opera (SHARED BY MUSICAL AND OPERA DIVS) to Kye Marshall (Composer) and Amanda Hale (Librettist).
Congratulations to Kye Marshall and Amanda Hale, and to all the artistic team behind this great opera project!
