Explorateur intrépide et polyvalent, le pianiste et compositeur Andy Milne, deux fois récompensé par un Juno, est depuis 30 ans une voix distincte et respectée au cœur de la scène jazz créative de New York. Il collabore avec des danseurs, des artistes visuels, des poètes et des musiciens dans les domaines du jazz, de la musique classique, de la pop, du folk et de la musique du monde. Au piano, il mêle habilement l’ordre à la gravité poétique, créant une expérience musicale unique et captivante.
Il a enregistré et tourné dans le monde entier avec Ravi Coltrane, Ralph Alessi, Carlos Ward et Carla Cook, et a collaboré avec de nombreux artistes, dont Andrew Cyrille, Sekou Sundiata, Avery Brooks, Bruce Cockburn, Fred Hersch, Ben Monder, Dianne Reeves, Jen Shyu, Tyshawn Sorey et Jamie Baum. Ancien élève d'Oscar Peterson, Milne a été au centre du collectif M-BASE en tant que membre principal des groupes du saxophoniste Steve Coleman, et a joué avec Cassandra Wilson et Greg Osby. Milne a composé et produit les musiques de sept films documentaires du célèbre réalisateur William Shatner et a publié 11 enregistrements en tant que leader ou co-leader.
Il a reçu de nombreux prix et commandes, dont la prestigieuse bourse Civitella. En plus de ses multiples projets, Milne est un éducateur recherché, il est professeur adjoint de musique à l'université du Michigan et directeur adjoint de la School for Improvisational Music. Milne puise son inspiration dans la politique, la philosophie, l'homéopathie, la comédie et la science-fiction, et ses influences musicales vont de Thelonious Monk à Art Tatum, en passant par Herbie Nichols, Bela Bartok, Joni Mitchell et Stevie Wonder.

A fearless, versatile explorer, two-time Juno Award winning pianist/composer Andy Milne has been a distinct and respected voice at the heart of New York’s creative jazz scene for 30 years, collaborating with dancers, visual artists, poets and musicians spanning jazz, classical, pop, folk, and world music. At the piano he skillfully blends poetic gravitas with a playful sense of order.
He has recorded and toured throughout the world with Ravi Coltrane, Ralph Alessi, Carlos Ward and Carla Cook, and has collaborated with a range of artists including Andrew Cyrille, Sekou Sundiata, Avery Brooks, Bruce Cockburn, Fred Hersch, Ben Monder, Dianne Reeves, Jen Shyu, Tyshawn Sorey and Jamie Baum. A former student of Oscar Peterson, Milne was at the center of the M-BASE Collective as a core member of saxophonist Steve Coleman’s bands, as well as performing with Cassandra Wilson and Greg Osby. Milne composed and produced the scores for seven documentary films by acclaimed director William Shatner and has released 11 recordings as a leader or co-leader.
He is the recipient of numerous awards and commissions, including the prestigious Civitella Fellowship. In addition to his multiple projects, Milne is a sought-after educator, serving as an assistant professor of music at The University of Michigan. and the Assistant-Director at The School for Improvisational Music. Milne draws inspiration from politics, philosophy, homeopathy, comedy, and science fiction, with musical influences that bridge Thelonious Monk, Art Tatum, Herbie Nichols, Bela Bartok, Joni Mitchell and Stevie Wonder.
