Brian Current Introduces -
"Airline Icarus", winner, in 2010, of Italy's Premio Fedora for new Chamber Opera.
It was also presented at the New York City Opera's Vox, where this interview was prepared.

World premiere is April 29 , 2011 in Verbania, Italy.

On November 1, 2017, Brian Current's new opera, "Missing", with a libretto by Marie Clements, will open in Vancouver. His first opera, Airline Icarus received the Premio Fedora in 2011 for best new Chamber Opera, and the Juno for best recording of a new work for its NAXOS release. It was also invited to Opera America's New Works Showcase and to the Fort Worth Opera Frontiers Festival.

In 2015, Brain Current won the $50,000 Azrieli Foundation Award to compose the "Seven Heavenly Halls" a work for soloists, choir and orchestra, which was premiered by Kent Nagano and the Montreal Symphony in October 2016. . It was performed again in May 2017 in Toronto as part of the C21 Festival and is scheduled for a performance and recording with the Czech National Philharmonic, in September 2017. This 25 minute work is the first part of a full-evening work, "River of Light", which will be premiered in 2019.

His work , "A Young Person's Guide to New Music for Symphony Orchestra", has been performed by orchestras in Canada, Taiwan and Estonia. It has been enjoyed by audiences of all ages.

Brian Current is the recipient of awards and prizes from the Barlow Foundation, the Fromm Music Foundation of Harvard University, the Koussevitsky Foundation, the Canada Council and the Ontario Arts Council among others.

Brian studied composition at McGill University and UC Berkeley (PhD 2002). His music, lauded and broadcast in over 35 countries, has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Barlow Prize for Orchestral Music (USA), the Italian Premio Fedora for Chamber Opera, the Azrieli Commissioning Prize and a Selected Work (composers under 30) at the International Rostrum of Composers in Paris. Brian Current’s pieces have been programmed by all major symphony orchestras in Canada and by dozens of professional orchestras, ensembles and opera companies worldwide.

He is also in demand as a guest conductor and regularly leads programs of contemporary music. He is the director of the New Music Ensemble at the Glenn Gould School of Music of the Royal Conservatory in Toronto, Canada.
